The Stealing of Marcus Keane
In September 1884, the newspapers were alive with reports of a bizarre body-snatching case involving one of County Clare's most prominent land agents, Marcus Keane. Keane represented many of Clare's largest landlords, (including the Vandeleurs and Westbys) and he was unpopular in the district. But when his recently-buried body disappeared from his grave in Old Kilmaley Churchyard, few could have guessed the obscure motives behind his body snatch.
